Simon Says Read This Book: A Prescription for Change

This week I’m sharing a book recommendation rather than a blog post.

I have slowly been working through the books available on pharma from Amazon in between my other reading, and this one had been in my list for a while.

A Prescription for Change is an excellent review of the several hundred years of history that got us to the modern approach of bringing drugs to market and some of the challenges we face today.

Although it was written 8 years ago, multiple topics it touches on are just as relevant today; Big Pharma spending less on R&D, the challenging pathway to approval, and shortages in investment in basic science all feature heavily.

It is well-written and relatively “easy” read, being broken into shorter chapters and sections. The author published a series of papers if anyone wants to get into the more academic side of the research that underpins this narrative, his academic profile is here: https://biochem.wustl.edu/faculty/kinch
